the river jordan and adversity

REOCCURRING song 9/11/08:  I woke this morning with the following song going round and round in my mind:  Every time I feel the Spirit, movin’ in my heart, I will pray.

Every Time I Feel The Spirit

Traditional

      Chorus

Every time I feel the Spirit

Movin’ in my heart I will pray

Every time I feel the spirit

Movin’ in my heart I will pray

      Verse

Up on the mountains my Lord spoke

Out of His mouth came fire and smoke

Looked all around me, it looked so fine

I asked the Lord could it be mine

      Chorus

Every time I feel the Spirit

Movin’ in my heart I will pray

Every time I feel the spirit

Movin’ in my heart I will pray

       Verse

The Jordan river is chilly and cold.
It chills the body but not the soul.
There aint but one train upon this track.
It runs to heaven and then right back.

      Chorus

Every time I feel the Spirit

Movin’ in my heart I will pray

Every time I feel the spirit

Movin’ in my heart I will pray

       Verse

Oh, I have sorrow and I have woe

            I have heartaches here below

But while God leads me I’ll never fear

For I know that He is near

      Chorus

Every time I feel the Spirit

Movin’ in my heart I will pray

Every time I feel the spirit

Movin’ in my heart I will pray

EXCERPT FROM 101 WAYS GOD SPEAKS:  GOD SPEAKS THROUGH RECURRING SONGS

Have you ever noticed the song you sing in church will sometimes go over and over in your mind? Listen to the message. You may be delighted to discover He is speaking His response to your worry or question of the moment.

After a time of personal and difficult death to self will, the Lord brought a melody to mind I hummed for days. Having forgotten the words, I finally found the song and listened to the words: “He didn’t bring us this far to leave us. He didn’t teach us to swim to let us drown. He didn’t build a home in us to move away. He didn’t lift us up to let us down.” (By Joni Erickson Tada) In His wondrous way, He brought me needed encouragement.

I love to hear the Lord through songs. Sometimes they go over and over again in my mind, until I finally listen to the Words and I realize they are the Lord speaking to my exact need. Sometimes I have heard His still small voice sing the song to me at night when I am just waking. His Word is alive and well through song, and He sings His Words to us all the time!

APPLICATION:  The heavens belong to God, but the earth He has given into our hands.  God MOVES when we pray.  Pray about everything, watch God step in where you give Him permission.

Yes we are going through death to self as we cross that river Jordan, but He promises that as we humble ourselves, He lifts us up and we will rise into new life, new hope, new position, new faith, new opportunities, just as Jesus rose from His death to self.  Jordan’s current may be going against our flesh, but adversity is the womb of advancement.  How?  Every time you feel the Spirit moving, PRAY.

QUICKENED QUOTES ON ADVERSITY

Billy Graham
Comfort and prosperity have never enriched the world as much as adversity has.

J. C. Penney
I would never have amounted to anything were it not for adversity. I was forced to come up the hard way.

Louisa May Alcott
I'm not afraid of storms, for I'm learning to sail my ship.

Helen Keller
The one resolution, which was in my mind long before it took the form of a resolution, is the key-note of my life. It is this, always to regard as mere impertinences of fate the handicaps which were placed upon my life almost at the beginning. I resolved that they should not crush or dwarf my soul, but rather be made to blossom, like Aaron's rod, with flowers.

Zig Ziglar
If there were no problems, most of us would be unemployed.

Winston Churchill
Never, never, never, never give up.

Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning.
Bill Gates

In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.

 Albert Einstein
