READER QUESTION:  I have been thinking about election and my calling.  Why did God choose me?

SANDY RESPONSE: ELECTION

 The word elect in both the Hebrew and Greek means to be chosen, selected, elected.  And scripture tells us many are called (invited) but few are chosen/ selected/ elected. 

Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

PREDESTINATION - Along the lines of election is predestination.  There are so many scriptures that say the Lord “knew” us and predestined us before we were born.  He already recorded every one of our days in His book - before we were born.

Romans 8:29-30 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Psalms 139:16 NLT  You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. 

Jeremiah 1:5  Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; and before you came forth out of the womb I sanctified you, and I ordained you a prophet unto the nations.

Jesus said He came to the world, from the Father in heaven.  He was the first born among many brethren.  So we also came from the Father in heaven and we  knew Him before we were born too.  We were chosen for this even before the world was formed! The difference is that the sperm fertilizing the egg in Mary was imparted through the Holy Spirit from the heavenly Father and not an earthly father.

I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father. (John 16:28)

Ephesians 1:4-5 According as he has chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

One time I was taken up to heaven and I realized that I knew Him, I mean really KNEW Him before I came to earth.  This realization was an experience of something I had not known before.  At another time I had a dream of being sent down to earth. 

According to Neville Johnson’s experiences in heaven, we actually agreed to what our life would be and what our assignment would be in overcoming all the stuff we would have to go through in order to complete our assignment.  There again is Him honoring freewill. 

God has always preserved a holy remnant to carry His purposes throughout history.  And I think that predestination is more about our agreement with Him before we were born, than about it happening to us against our free will.

I chose you.  I knew you before you were born.

Fellowship made in heaven.  You knew one another before you were born.
