WHAT ARE SOUL TIES? 4/13/09
Someone asked me today about soul ties. Soul ties are
when you have an emotional bond with people, where your
heart is open and vulnerable to them. It is also when
you trust and perhaps lean on them for help instead of
the Lord. The doors they have open in their lives ends
dumps on you simply because of the ties you have in your
own soul with them. It is possible to be in the world
and not of the world and to love people with God's love
but not be vulnerable to them with your own needs.
Soul ties can take place through the 3 kinds of love.
Agape love, Philio love, and Eros love.
AGAPE LOVE
Being knit in Agape love is experiencing God’s love back
to Him, and this is His love that we have for one
another. This is a healthy, united, affectionate love
where we are knit together in God and His family. The
word has its base in a logical choice to love, as in a
decision.
Matt 22:37-40 NKJV
Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the LORD your God
with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all
your mind.' 38 This is the first and great
commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'You shall
love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 On these two
commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
Col 2:1-2 NKJV
For I want you to know what a great conflict I have
for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have
not seen my face in the flesh, that their hearts may be
encouraged, being knit together {4822} in love.
KNIT TOGETHER
NT:4822
NT:4822 sumbibazo (soom-bib-ad'-zo); from NT:4862 and
bibazo (to force; causative {by reduplication} of the
base of NT:939); to drive together, i.e. unite (in
association or affection), (mentally) to infer, show,
teach:
KJV - compact, assuredly gather, intrust, knit together,
prove.
AGAPE LOVE
NT:26
NT:26 agape (ag-ah'-pay); from NT:25; love, i.e.
affection or benevolence; specially (plural) a
love-feast:
KJV - (feast of) charity ({-ably}), dear, love.
PHILIO LOVE – Friendship, Family love, Marriage love
Philio love is a family love and a friendship love.
This kind of love is emotional and has its base more in
a heart choice to love more than a logical decision to
love.
PHILEO LOVE
NT:5368
NT:5368 phileo (fil-eh'-o); from NT:5384; to be a friend
to (fond of {an individual or an object}), i.e. have
affection for (denoting personal attachment, as a
matter of sentiment or feeling;
while NT:25 (agape) is wider, embracing especially the
judgment and the deliberate assent of the will as a
matter of principle, duty and propriety: the two thus
stand related very much as NT:2309 and NT:1014, or as
NT:2372 and NT:3563 respectively; the former being
chiefly of the heart and the latter of the head);
specifically, to kiss (as a mark of tenderness):
KJV - kiss, love.
1 Sam 18:1, 3 NKJV
Now when he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul
of Jonathan was knit {7194} to the soul of David
, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul...Then
Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him
as his own soul.
Gen 44:30-31 NKJV
"Now therefore, when I come to your servant my
father, and the lad is not with us, since his life is
bound up {7194} in the lad's life, it will
happen, when he sees that the lad is not with us, that
he will die.
Gen 2:24 AMP
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his
mother and shall become united and cleave {1692} to his
wife, and they shall become one flesh. (Matt 19:5; 1 Cor
6:16; Eph 5:31-33.)
KNIT
OT:7194
OT:7194 qashar (kaw-shar'); a primitive root: to tie,
physically (gird, confine, compact) or mentally (in
love, league):
KJV - bind (up), (make a) conspire (-acy, -ator), join
together, knit, stronger, work {treason}.
WITH THE SOUL OF
OT:5315
OT:5315 nephesh (neh'-fesh); from OT:5314; properly, a
breathing creature, i.e. animal of (abstractly)
vitality; used very widely in a literal, accommodated or
figurative sense (bodily or mental):
KJV - any, appetite, beast, body, breath, creature, dead
(-ly), desire, {dis-} contented, fish, ghost, greedy,
he, heart (-y), (hath, jeopardy of) life (X in
jeopardy), lust, man, me, mind, mortally, one, own,
person, pleasure, (her-, him-, my-, thyself-), them
(your)- selves, slay, soul, tablet, they, thing, (X she)
will, would have it.
CLEAVE
dabaq
OT:1692 dabaq (daw-bak'); a primitive root; properly, to
impinge, i.e. cling or adhere; figuratively, to catch by
pursuit:
KJV - abide fast, cleave (fast together), follow close
(hard after), be joined (together), keep (fast),
overtake, pursue hard, stick, take.
1 Sam 20:17 NKJV
Now Jonathan again caused David to vow, because he
loved him; for he loved him as he loved his own soul.
2 Sam 1:25-27 NKJV
"How the mighty have fallen in the midst of the
battle! Jonathan was slain in your high places. 26 I am
distressed for you, my brother Jonathan; You have been
very pleasant to me; Your love to me was wonderful,
Surpassing the love of women. 27 "How the mighty have
fallen, And the weapons of war perished!"
Prov 18:24 NKJV
A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but
there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
1 Chron 12:17-18 AMP
David went out to meet them and said to them, If you
have come peaceably to me to help me, my heart shall be
knit to you; but if you have come to betray me to my
adversaries, although there is no violence or wrong in
my hands, may the God of our fathers look upon and
rebuke you. 18 Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, who
was chief of the captains, and he said, Yours we are,
David, and on your side, you son of Jesse! Peace, peace
be to you, and peace be to your helpers, for your God
helps you. Then David received them and made them
officers of his troops.
EROS LOVE – Erotic sexual love
Soul ties can happen in sexual relationship outside of
marriage. It is important that these sins are renounced
and soul ties cut off to close demonic doors.
Gen 34:1-3 AMP
NOW DINAH daughter of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob,
went out {unattended} to see the girls of the place.
2 And when Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of
the country, saw her, he seized her, lay with her, and
humbled, defiled, and disgraced her. 3 But his soul
longed for and clung to Dinah daughter of Jacob, and he
loved the girl and spoke comfortingly to her young
heart's wishes.

ABOUT SOUL TIES AND DELIVERANCE
Soul ties can leave one open and vulnerable to demons.
The following is from my book, Ministering Deliverance.
The following notes are from Frank Hammond’s booklet
called Soul Ties, and reprinted in my book with his
permission before he died.
· SOUL TIES
{From Frank Hammond’s booklet, Soul Ties}
(Frank’s website:
http://newwineonline.com/cbm/books.htm)
Soul ties are derived from the Greek words ‘joined and
fellowship’. They mean to cleave to, be glued or
cemented. (Mat 19:6, Eph 4:16, I Cor 1:10, I Cor 6:15,
I Cor 5:6,7, I Cor 6:17) OT: (Num 25:3, Ps 106: 28, Hos
4:17)
Demons enter soul ties when the boundaries God has set
for relationships are violated. Unholy soul ties occur:
Þ in past
sexual relationships - including all levels of
petting. (1 Cor 6:16)
Þ w/ evil
companions, friends, close business relations. (I Cor
15:33, Prov 22:5)
Þ pets - when
treated as family, or taking the place of people.
(Gen 2:20)
Þ perverted
family ties - to leave and cleave is vital. (Eph 5:31)
Þ the dead -
there is a time limit for mourning the dead. After
that, one is to let go. (Num 20:29, Deut 34:8)
Þ factions
within the church - cliques and divisions. (1 Cor
12:24,25)
Other unholy soul ties can be indirectly related
through
Þ ear piercing
and body piercing - becomes slave to master. (Ex 21:5,6)
Þ tattoos -
connection with the idol of the mark. (Lev 19:28)
Soul ties happen when there is an emotional bond with
whomever or whatever there is an attachment. Soul ties
often manifest through priorities. If the attachment is
taking the place of the Lord, Who is our Source, then it
reveals itself by being out of balance with the rest of
life, through time, emotions and focus. |
