ABOUT CHARISMATIC WORSHIP AND DANCING
ABOUT CHARISMATIC WORSHIP AND DANCING
There are different types of churches that promote different types of worship. On the extremes there are the monk type who prefer isolation and quietness, and the opposite are the dancin’/ tongue talkin’ charismatics.
Scripture tells us that in order to hear God, we need to be STILL. But scripture says we ENTER INTO that stillness with thanksgiving and praise. To hear God, we go through a door into His chambers but the entrance to that door is thanking Him and praising Him.
Psalm 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
Psalm 116:17 I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.
Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.
1 Kings 19:11-13 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What do you here, Elijah?
Psalm 4:4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.
6/19/04: One evening I had spent my all worshipping the Lord in dance in our bedroom. When I went to bed, I heard, Knock, knock, knock. I saw a wooden chamber door with a rounded arch at the top, just large enough for a person to enter. I could see the outside of this small chamber room connecting to the door and it was mortared in cobblestones. I had the impression that the room was almost round, but not quite. I heard Him say, Come in and saw the door opened and I felt the movement of myself walking in through the door. The inside of the room was dripping heavy with a man’s perfume. It was like what Wayne wears that I love so much, but this was more poignant and I knew it was the Lord. It was an overwhelmingly beautiful aroma with great attraction and drawing. I heard Him say, Got you! I was totally melted!
I knew He was showing me that my dancing and pouring out my heart to Him was His portrayal of one way to enter into His chambers of love.
Most worship services start with very fast paced and loud music. The song selection are happy songs that sing ABOUT Him. It is joyful and celebrating type music filled with praise and thanksgiving about Who He is. Then near the end of the hour, it changes to maybe 2-3 slow songs which are intimate and slow, and singing TO Him. People have spent themselves upon Him and begin to relax and come into His chambers to hear His Word.
We are told that the type of worship that the Father seeks comes from our spirit and truth. It is our spirit man, the very breath within us that worships Him. And when we come to Him, we are naked and truthful and hold nothing back from Him. We come just as we are and hide nothing from Him.
John 4:23-24 But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
When we love God, we are to love Him with all our strength (body), our soul, mind, and heart. Scripture says that we are tripart beings, which are body, soul and spirit. Our soul is our mind, will and emotions. When we worship Him, we are pouring out our adoration and love for Him with all our hearts, our mind, will and emotions and our strength.
Mark 12:30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength: this is the first commandment.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Is dancing before the Lord worshipping Him in spirit? Remember David danced with all his MIGHT before the Lord, which was his body. He literally poured out his strength to Him in dance. He was even despised and ridiculed for it, but David was so in love with God that He totally abandoned himself to express his heart in such a way. There are many testimonies of those who have gone to the throne room and seen people worship through dance. Yes dancing can be worshipping Him in spirit, it totally depends upon the heart and the motive of the dancer.
2 Samuel 6:14-15 And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod. 15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.
I feel His tangible Presence when I dance before Him, especially when I worship Him with my hands. I have worshipped Him through dance in congregations that dance, but mostly in my living room, outside on my back porch, under our carport, and even on the isolated street where I walk. I have worshipped him in dance while sitting in my chair and only using my hands to express my heart to Him. Because I feel His tangible Presence when I dance, I know He is expressing His love back to me reciprocally and it motivates me to dance all the more! My spirit is involved because I almost always speak in tongue when I dance, and if not that, then I sing with my breath.
Some churches have dancers with costumes, does that please the Lord? Heaven is FULL of gorgeous attire, so there is nothing wrong with lovely color and garments. But once again, it is the motive of the heart that pleases the Lord.
There is such a thing as being passive and God does not want us to be spectators, but be active and enter in. God does not appreciate the spirit of entertainment being in His church if that has replaced genuine worship. Entertainment taking over is like the money changers where Jesus threw them out saying His house was to be a house of prayer. The fog machines, the strobe lights, even the costumes are not necessary for worshipping the Lord. In the same, churches can use even the choir, solo singers and yearly pageants / dramas as entertainment to draw the unsaved. What matter is if they are doing it unto the Lord and their hearts are worshipping Him. It is all in the motives and the heart. You can tell whether a church is so into entertainment that it is replacing genuine worshipping the Lord. Where is its focus? Where is the people’s focus?
You do not have to dance in order to participate. You can be active and enter in with your eyes closed and totally focused on participating with Him in the music, prayer, etc in total silence. (I personally love to dance with my hands in my chair while speaking in tongues, and then finally become totally silent in mind and body and totally focused on hearing His voice and seeing visions while others are still worshipping. It is much easier to enter into His Presence while others are opening the door for me with their worship. But I do my part to participate in worship and usher in His Presence at first.) In the opposite, we can sit in our chairs and enjoy the lovely music, dance and never have one thought about the Lord.
John 4:23-24 But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
