Fun Examples of Word Puns
[Text Version]
I love it when God speaks to me through Word puns! They are like little riddles or mysteries that are hidden from plain sight. Just at the right moment, we discover them and realize He is speaking to us! (That moment of realization is the process of revelation.)
- Word puns can be a playful use of 2 words that sound similar but have different meanings.
- Sometimes through the element of surprise and odd turn of meaning, a word may have a humorous effect.
- Sometimes a word pun can be like a parable that has a disguised spiritual meaning.
When Peter was in prayer, he received a vision where he saw all these unclean animals. The Lord said this:
And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean. And the voice spoke unto him again the second time, What God has cleansed, that call not common. Acts 10:13-15 The Lord used a Word pun to talk to Peter about unclean animals and His intent was to actually speak to Peter about ministering to the Gentiles. |
Realizing that God speaks through Word puns is for the purpose of having fellowship with the Lord in our daily lives. The following are funny/ punny examples of how God has spoken in my daily life.
WORD PUNS VIA TYPING BLOOPERS
Often I hear the Lord speaking to me through word puns via typos. I accidently type a word incorrectly and then when I see it, I realize it has a quirky secondary meaning that puts a smile in my heart.
For instance look at Tao’s typing blooper:
TAO’S TYPING PUN:
Vision (2/2/09): I went to a small room, with a dining table there. I was invited as a quest there, as I looked at the table, it has the most precious and expensive food I even had. I am glad to be treated in such a way.
Tao was invited as a GUEST to the table of the Lord. However there is a hidden meaning by suggesting that to sup at His table is a quest… or a search for His many wonderful surprises just waiting for us to discover!
Matt 7:7-12 NKJV
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek , and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”

WORD PUNS VIA GOD FILLING OUR MOUTH
QUICKENED SONG PUN:
I was singing the line I’m taking back the land, but accidentally sang, “I’m waking back the land.”
Rom 13:11-13 NKJV
And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

QUICKENED PRAYER PUN:
I was praying, “Com-fort Your daughter, please “come for” Your daughter.” It is such a beautiful prophetic pun Word and has become one of my favorite prayers of intimacy.
Isa 40:1-2 NKJV
“Comfort , yes, comfort My people!” Says your God. “Speak comfort to Jerusalem, and cry out to her, that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned.
WORD PUNS FROM SURPRISE ENDINGS
A FUNNY PUNNY PROPHETIC WORD:
One time during a meeting one of our intercessors asked me for a piece of paper. So I tore a 2×3” piece of paper off my notepad and handed it to her and asked her if she wanted a pen! She laughed and said she hesitated to see what she would get if she said yes!
On the way home from the meeting I was still chuckling about that and the Lord put it in my heart to bring her a huge piece of butcher paper tonight to church. So I unrolled a 3 x 5 foot sheet of paper and got my huge marking pen out. I asked Him what I was suppose to do with it and it was quickened to me to tape a tiny piece of torn paper at the top and write a question on it. And then on the huge paper I wrote in large letters the Word the Lord gave me.
On the way to church, the Lord told me this was a corporate Word. So when I handed her the rolled up scroll, and told her it was a Word from the Lord to her, she asked, “How big is it?” The Lord surprised her, because she unrolled the scroll and read, “How big do you want it?”

THE LORD’S SENSE OF HUMOR
I heard a song on the radio. A certain line stuck with me: “Lord let me be a living sermon, because folks would rather see than hear one.”
The same day, Grandma Anna heard the Lord say, “Laughter, laughter. Rise up and be silent. Prophesying prophet. Computer. Your task.”

THE LORD’S REASSURANCE
In the climax of a very long trial, I heard the Lord say this to me: “Having SAID ALL, now rest.” It was a pun on the Word, having done all, then stand. In the witness stand we “stand” against the accuser, but when we are finished saying what we are supposed to say, we sit down and rest, committing all the results to the Judge of Justice, for reward and recompense.
Eph 6:12-13 NKJV
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Rev 12:10-11 NKJV
Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
