LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL

LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL

7/27/24 BIBLE STUDY – AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION

Today in my Bible study I pondered this verse in the Lord’s Prayer:

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Jesus is saying that the Father has all the power and He is saying to ask the Father that He not allow us to be carried into temptation by the devil. Rather ask that we instead be delivered from evil. This word temptation has to do with testing by experiment. The main reason the enemy wants to test a person is for access when he is accusing someone before the Father in the throne room. The devil’s desire is to put someone on trial.

TEMPTATION: An experiment to prove by a good and/or evil experience.

Scripture says that God does not temp any man. Only the devil (and one’s carnal flesh) tempts. However the Father allows it for His own purpose in defeating the devil’s intentions.

James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempts he any man:

As soon as I read that God doesn’t tempt man, (He is not the author of such) I remembered 3 scriptures where the devil requested to test Job, Jesus and Peter. God is Sovereign and the enemy has to ask permission to test and/or sift if a person’s hedge is closed. (The enemy has access if a person’s hedge is not closed because of sin, except for the mercy of God!)

Job 1:6-7 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. 7 And the LORD said unto Satan, From where come you? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.

Matthew 4:1-3 Then was Jesus led up by the Spirit (this was the Father’s will on earth) into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If you are the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

Luke 22:31-32 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: 32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith fail not: and when you have returned, strengthen your brethren.

PRAYER: Lord it is our earnest prayer that we not be given over to demonic testing, rather You would have mercy for our sins and places where we have missed Your mark. Please forgive us for our known and unknown sins, our willful sins and our sins of weakness. Grant us grace to overcome what has stumbled us in the past and strengthen our inner man to say NO to the devil and NO to our flesh. Father thank You that You sent Jesus to pay the horrible price for our sins, giving us access to You. As we come before You now, let us have mercy and grace in our time of need. We are so grateful for the blood that Jesus poured out for us. We pray this In Jesus name.

Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Revelation 12:10-11 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, who accused them before our God day and night. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto death.
