Pretzel Parable
THE PARABLE OF THE PRETZEL
(Text Version) One day I saw a vision of a pretzel being tied in a knot. I heard the Lord tell me it was now the season of joy in sharing how He speaks to me in parables and riddles. The Lord speaks to us in parables and riddles. Here is what the Bible says: “Son of man, pose a riddle, and speak a parable to the house of Israel, 3 and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD. (Eze 17:2-3 NKJV) That Hebrew word riddle means a puzzle that is tied in a knot and needs to be untied, or unraveled in order to understand it. I realized the way a pretzel is made, the dough is tied in a knot. Today at the mall, I watched a girl make pretzels from dough. She rolled them on the counter so they grew into long strands, then she picked up the ends and twirled them once and at the same time crossed her hands in one fast gesture. The pretzel landed on the counter in a perfectly twisted and rolled pretzel!! She was really good at that! I was so tickled to see her do this in one smooth motion, and not miss a beat, pretzel after pretzel. Here is a parable to solve: For the 2nd time today as I was fixing dinner, I stepped on my shoe lace as it had become untied. My shoes almost always stayed tied as I keep them tied and just slip in and out of them that way. It was really quickened to me that they became untied twice today. When God talks it is through 2 or 3 witnesses. 2 Cor 13:1 NKJV “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.” Gen 41:32 NKJV And the dream was repeated to Pharaoh twice because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass. What do you think God was telling me through my untied shoe laces? As I thought about it, I heard the Lord say, “Untied a parable.” He was telling me to be aware that what I had been puzzled over, He brought the pieces together in a way that I was able to understand. Untying a parable is to bring understanding to a story. Jesus spoke that way to the crowds, telling them kingdom stories. Later when He was with His friends the disciples, He explained what He really meant by the parables. One day my son made the word “Earth” with pretzels. He chewed off the ends to create letters. When he showed me, I said how about the word heaven? So he came back later and with pretzels he spelled out, “Heaven is great!” God speaks about heavenly things through examples on earth. The illustrations help us compare and connect the ideas with what He is saying to us on a spiritual level. There is joy and pleasure when we ponder something we think He is saying to us, and suddenly the understanding comes! Proverbs 1:1-6 (NLT) These are the proverbs (parables) of Solomon, David’s son, king of Israel. 2 Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise. 3 Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair. 4 These proverbs will give insight to the simple, knowledge and discernment to the young. 5 Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance 6 by exploring the meaning in these proverbs and parables, the words of the wise and their riddles. |
