Quickened Traffic Signs
GOD SPEAKS THROUGH TRAFFIC SIGNS AND OTHER SIGNS
I have found delight driving down the road, realizing He has spoken to me through where my eyes have glanced, especially about what I was just thinking. As I was driving home after attending some out of town evangelistic meetings, I was thanking the Lord that I had made the extra effort to go, and thinking of all those who like myself had sacrificed to attend. Just as I was thanking Him, I looked up at a billboard and my eyes fell on the words: “Worth the drive!”
One time I had been praying about whether I should add one more responsibility to my schedule, and glancing up at a magnetic sign, (a local business thought for the day) I read: “Protect your time and space to carry out your dreams.” Immediately I thought about saving some time for writing, as that was the Lord’s promise to me. One little sign, and the Lord quickened it with His power punch.
Another day I turned on the radio while in the car and heard someone singing about whatever it takes to walk with the Lord. As I was thinking about what it takes to have a relationship with the Lord and listening to the chorus, “Whatever it takes, whatever it takes,” I glanced up at a movie advertisement and read, “It Takes Two.” I remembered what I had written in my book that it takes two to have a relationship – one who speaks and one who listens. I was tickled at this little moment in time when the Lord interrupted my thoughts with His precious Words.
I have often driven down the road and a “yield” sign or a yellow light will be quickened to me to yield to the Lord what I was just thinking. Miscellaneous signs can be allegorical symbols. We can read the words, even understand what they say, but do we take the added step to ponder if the Lord has just shared something allegorically?
OTHER EXAMPLES OF QUICKENED SIGNS
EXAMPLE ONE
Wayne & I went to the public market and walked into a unique garden store and there were some homemade house signs. Wayne had a big smile on his face and called me over and I read this:
1625 S. Warner Street
When I came home I looked up the number 1625 in the Hebrew and Greek in the Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance. It meant to chew the cud (Heb) and to raise up into maturity through cherishing, training and nourishing. (Gk)
I was reminded of the question that Wayne asked me a few weeks prior: What I thought I was called for, sent for, or the reason I got up every day. I told him it was the Word the Lord told me long ago, “Have fun raising the children.” I felt that meant feeding the children and teaching them how God speaks.

My eyes anticipate the night watches and I am awake before the cry of the watchman, that I may meditate on Your word.
Eph 6:4 AMP
Fathers, do not irritate and provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to resentment], but rear them [tenderly] in the training and discipline and the counsel and admonition of the Lord.
WORD TO PONDER: A SIGN WAITING FOR YOU
I have given you signs that point your way in a fallen world. Listen to My voice, for it shall suddenly speak in the most unlikely places. It is there as you listen that you will know My tangible love and remember My love for you. I have many wonderful delights waiting for you in your daily journeys, if you take time to listen. In these surprises I will give you food to ponder that will strengthen and nourish you along the way.
“Yet your teachers will not be moved into a corner anymore, but your eyes shall see your teachers. Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.” (Isa 30:20-21 NKJV)
EXAMPLE TWO
The Lord had been talking to me about eating more vegetables and less starch. He really wanted me to change my eating habits and recover a healthy body. During that time, while at the new dentist office, I was amazed at the huge fish tank in their office. I asked the secretary about the foot long fish on the bottom of the tank. She said that he went along the glass and ate algae.
Then I heard the Lord say, “Vegetable eater.” As soon as I heard Him say that, she added, “We cut up pieces of zucchini and hang it from a string and he loves it.” I said, “That is probably why he is so big, because you feed it with tender loving care.” She said it was the largest that any one had ever seen of its kind.
As I was trying to apply the Lord’s quick interjection into my conversation with the lady, I realized He was saying that He had fed me with TLC and I was growing bigger in Him. I also thought He had a wonderful sense of humor to find such an interesting confirmation for getting me to change my eating habits.
As I went into the dentist and sat in the chair, I was still thinking about eating veggies. Hanging on the wall was a sign: “Open thy mouth and I will fill it.”
OK Lord, I got the point! More vegetables.
WORD TO PONDER: LISTEN AND APPLY
I want to talk to you through everything in life, if you would only listen. My Words to you are like shining symbols hanging on the wall, once your heart is opened to hear Me in new parabolic ways.
Do you want to grow up in Me? Then eat a more balanced diet. I know all you want is visions and hearing My still small voice, but I want to send you a good variety of tasty Words. You may not like the unusual ways I speak, but I promise you that once you taste My voice in all of life, it is like a carrot dangling on a string. I place My morsels in front of you, and bounce them around just enough to get your attention, and wait for you to take a bite.
Now that wasn’t so bad, was it? Try another, and another and another. Soon you will delight in eating your spiritual vegetables and will grow healthy, lean and strong. Listen and apply your life around you as My Word. Hear the spiritual parables behind your circumstances. They are everywhere, all around you, every day.
“And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it. But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples.” (Mark 4:33-34 NKJV)
