Examples of Quickened Creation

CreationFeatured

[Text Version]

When my son was young and first learning the different ways God speaks, I had a really hard time explaining the word quickening.  On the most simple terms, Quickening represents giving life – any kind of life.  God created life.  If you were trying to help your first grader understand the word “life”, what would you say?  It is really hard to define!

Maybe I might take him outside and let him feel the wind on his face and watch the leaf respond to the wind.  You dont see the wind, neither can you see quickening or life.  But you are impacted by it.  Quickening, just like the word “life” is really like a verb or an action, an expression of something that is moving and impacting and changing.

Sometimes it helps to find comparisons when trying to describe something, or understand it.  God’s creation is alive and so it is full of good examples of how to describe various aspects of life.  Since quickening means life, we can draw from examples in nature and explain how they compare.

EXAMPLES OF HIS QUICKENING POWER AS COMPARED TO HIS CREATION

1.  Quickening is like throwing a rock in a pool of water.  When the circles in the water touch me, it impacts my life.

2.  When I am cold and I sit in the sunny window, the sun warms and comforts me.  That is what the power of quickening is like.

3.  God has placed the whole earth on an axis.  Likewise, when the perspective of His Word touches me, I come into alignment and feel connected.  The quickening of His Word is like settling me into the axis of His purpose.

4.  I can watch a tree bud new leaves and see a baby change as it grows up, but I dont know how it happens.  Quickening is like that too. –  It causes me to change, silently and mysteriously.

5.  Water is purified as it moves and splashes.  Water that does not move becomes stagnant and stale.  When God quickens a Word to my life, it moves me and purifies me.  Without His quickening power, I become stagnant and stale, just like a pond.

6.  When the birds gather, I am surrounded by their loud chirping of many voices.  When God brings me many confirmations, it increases the volume or depth of His quickening upon my soul and spirit.

7.  The green grass grows, it looks lush and fertile.  Quickening makes me grow lush and fertile.

8.  I watch a migration of birds “point” as a sign in the sky when they fly like the letter V or an arrow.  Quickening points the way too.

9.  A cat purrs and vibrates peace and quickening vibrates peace too.

10.  A flower unfolds its petals just like quickening unfolds truth.

In these above examples of describing quickening, I have used the terms, “Impacts, warms and comforts, aligns, connects, settles, grows up, changes silently and mysteriously, purifies as it moves, surrounds by volume or depth, grows lush and fertile, points as a sign, vibrates peace, unfolds truth.

These are action words that describe aspects of life and thus quickening which is to give life.

Quickening is simply “LIFE” from the Holy Spirit imparted to us.  This was not an attempt to re-define quickening, only help us expand our understanding of the experience of quickening, so that when quickening happens to us, we can recognize it is God, and this will help us identify His personal Words to us easier.

Quickening is simply “LIFE” from the Holy Spirit imparted to us.  “Life” is not easy to define, and so I thought it would be a good idea to COMPARE life in an area we understand it and then APPLY it to life in quickening.

This was not an attempt to re-define quickening, only help us expand our understanding of the experience of quickening, so that when quickening happens to us, we can recognize it is God, and this will help us identify His personal Words to us easier.  I have taken the liberty to bold and highlight the living, moving parts in your examples of creation that help us identify the same life in God’s quickening.

You may read the following entries in 3 layers.  The first layer is the left column, where the class increased the definition of the life in quickening by comparing it to the life in creation.  The right hand column shows examples of how God’s creation is quickened.  Finally the bold, highlighted words can be applied to what quickening is like on a personal level when God quickens His Words to us.

Class Examples of Quickened Creation

MISC CLASS EXAMPLES OF
COMPARING LIFE IN CREATION TO LIFE IN GOD’S QUICKENING POWER

{Quickening is} like the glimpse of a spray of light in the distance, when a cloud opens to beam on a certain spot.

{Quickening is} like an approaching rain shower that you might glimpse from an elevated area.

{Quickening is} is the “gotcha feeling” you experience when someone points at you.

{Quickening is}  is like when you feel someone’s eyes on you from across a crowded room, and you turn and recognize a friend.

Quickening is a quiet highlighted reality…  Quickening is the Holy Spirit pointing to you and saying, “That’s it! Now!  Listen! or Look!”

What immediately came to my mind was if one of my cats is sleeping, I just love to hold a cat cookie of catnip leaf near their noses.  As soon as they get a whiff of the enticement, they eagerly jump up … and follow me anywhere to partake of that treat.

The same way the cat reacts to the aroma of the offered tidbit is the way I react when I suddenly feel the Holy Spirit’s quickening.  I want to jump up and follow that aroma. I want to jump up and follow Him anywhere.

Create…creation…creativity….to make, change, give life to.

Quickening is like the first time that I felt the fluttering touch in my womb of a

baby’s movement, I knew my baby was no longer an “it” but was truly alive.

Quickening…A recognition of creation like the cartoon picture of a light

bulb going on as the representation of an idea.

Quickening…{is like} the sudden flash of inspiration that comes when you finally understand…..(So that’s it!  Wow, I never thought of it that way.)

Quickening also could be like the speeding up of your pulse.

“Trees and their roots” go deep down into the ground just as a quickened word goes deep down into our soul.

A quickened word to me is like a “breathe of fresh air” I can take it in and let it go deep inside of my soul and speak to my inner man and it refreshes me.

The wind blows and moves my hair as the quickened word moves me inside.

Quickening is like the “morning dew” on the plants and trees in the morning, the nourishment they need to get through the day.

Quickening is like a “soothed baby” who just finished eating from her mother’s breast;  the quickened word satisfies and we are able to rest in that security of His loving care. We can know that we can sit on His lap and hear his sweet love stories knowing we are protected.

A quickened word is like “springtime” it is fresh and new and I get to wear different clothing (new garments and anointings may come with new words from the Lord.)

=======

The sky is like a new picture painted for us each day. The sky always has a new array of colors, glorious and captivating in different ways each time I look at it. Its wonder, beauty and majestic size is captivating when I gaze upon it.

{In the same way} when I gaze upon Him and receive a quickened word it is like a new painting etched in my heart that changes me in a way only God can accomplish. My inner man is strengthened and given more nourishment that is needed for the journey He has me on. His quickening excites me and invites me to reach deeper into His heart for more of these priceless nuggets that fulfill the depths of my heart. It is like fresh manna needed each day in order to live victoriously from Glory to Glory.

Three Christmas’s ago our female dog had a litter of puppies. I happen to be bless  and witness the second puppy being born, a pure white clear bag that grew up to be beautiful dog. The whole birth experience was a miracle.  Quickening is like a puppy being born, both bring instant wonder and joy.

To me smelling a rose is like the quickening. They both create wonder and a sense of joy in me. Taking time to smell the flowers creates a beauty inside us. The quickening {draws} us to take time to stop and listen; it brings a sense of inner peace, joy and new life.

=======

The Spring time desert rain is fresh and new like the Quickening.

=======

As lightening flashes in the sky so quickening touches the spirit.

=======

The forest fires cleanse the land, burning the dead brush and undergrowth, and new growth appears much more quickly then it would have before the fire.  The quickening of a word spoken by the Holy Spirit burns away the dead brush (shame, rejection, etc.), burns away all of the garbage that has piled up, and brings new life.

=======

Quickening  is like riding a bike, the more you practice- the more balance you have.

As He quickens us, we become like  a radio station dial, which has found it perfect place..

In an instant the quickening makes us like cymbals clapping to make beautiful music.

=======

Mountains sit aloof, alone, lonely, tall and yet majestic. Man climbs to the top with the right tools. Quickening is like having the right tools to climb to the mountain top.

Trees are sturdy and strong and pass through various seasons. Trees suddenly blossom and produce flowers and fruits in the right season and environment. Quickening is like locating that season and environment for production.

MISC CLASS EXAMPLES OF
QUICKENED PARABLES IN CREATION

The following are your examples of how God’s creation is quickened to you. These examples are  not definitions of quickening, but they are too good to pass by!  They are inspired and you did an excellent job in pondering your quickened moments in creation.

=======

I experienced the Quickening Power of the Holy Spirit as I was driving past a near-by park a few days ago.  There’s a road that goes through a near by State park; the trees show off God’s handiwork all year long.  Winter brings the beautiful snow that brightens even the darkest night.  Spring bursts forth with budding trees and bushes.  The summer is filled with the warmth of the sun and Autumn leaves shine His glorious colors.

As I was driving through the park, I found myself singing to the Lord.  I could hear God’s music outside the car…the birds were singing, the wind was ruffling the bear trees, the chill in the air was so fresh, and I could hear children playing in the park.  God’s music brought joy to my heart; and I knew at that very moment that when I sing to the Lord, it brings joy to His heart.   He speaks to us through His Word; and through His creation.

I started singing to the Lord the song from the Sound of Music….”the hills are alive with the sound of music”.  I paused for a moment as a reflected on the scripture that even the stones will praise Him.  What an awesome God we serve.

=======

Ps 19:1-5 “The heavens are telling the glory of God, they are a marvelous display of His craftsmanship. Day and night they keep telling about God. Without a sound or word, silent in the skies, their message reaches out to the world. The sun lives in the heavens where God placed it and moves out across the skies as a bridegroom going to his wedding…”

Reading this Scripture a couple of months ago, I realized that the sun is a picture of Jesus. The sun shines brightly in the sky, you can’t miss it, so will it be when Jesus returns, everyone will see Him and no one will be able to miss His return.
Matt 25:31 “When the son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him.”

Jesus also said He is the light of the world in John 8:12 “Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world, he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” Since then the sun has been a continuous reminder of Jesus to me.

I grew up and lived in cities where it never snowed, nine years ago we moved to a city where it snows in winter. One morning when I was driving and it freshly snowed, there were very few people outside, everything was so white and quiet. It reminded me of the Scripture Ps 51:7 “…wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” When I looked at the sun shining on the white, brilliant snow, I felt like I really understood this Scripture for the first time.

I had dreams with trees in it. In a dream a tree can represent a leader. In this one dream the tree was about two stories high, with green leaves, a strong tree. Ps 1:1-3 “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields it’s fruit in season and whose leaf does not whither. Whatever he does prospers.” Trees also remind me of the different seasons in our lives: spring, summer, fall, winter. We probably go through those season several times in our lives. The Lord used the Scripture in Songs of Solomon 2:10-12 at times when He called me into a new season “My beloved said to me, ‘Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. For winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers are springing up and the time of the singing of the birds has come. Yes, spring is here. The leaves are coming out and the grape vines are in blossom. How delicious they smell! Arise, my love, my fair one and come away.”

I was in the far north living in Montana when on a beautiful day, a seagull flew around overhead.  I took notice of it, and when I did, I got the message
that the Lord gave to me:  I would be moving to the south.  I did move and have been in Florida for 8 years now.

My husband and I were driving to church yesterday in heavy fog, and he turned to me and said, “We are driving by faith!” It reminds me of the verse in 2 Corinthians 5:7, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
