7/20/26 DO WE “COMMAND” ANGELS?
Every once in a while I come across someone who questions commanding angels. It is a good question and takes scriptural research to understand. Personally I do not “command” angels. Rather I LOOSE them. I remember when Daniel fasted in prayer for 3 weeks to finally receive the Word of the Lord. When the angel Gabriel showed up, he said that the warfare was such that he even needed the arch angel Micheal to help him to get through. Angels do experience hindrance and we are given authority to bind and loose and partner with heaven in our prayers.
Daniel 10:10-13 And, behold, a hand touched me, which made me tremble upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. 11 And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto you, and stand upright: for unto you am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. 12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that you did set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come because of your words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; for I had remained there with the kings of Persia.
In the same way that Daniel’s prayers and fasting made a difference for Michael to get through the opposition, we have the power to bind demonic resistance against the angelic hosts and loose the angels to get through, according to the authority God has given us.
Matt 16:19 NKJV
And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
ANGELS HEED THE WORD OF THE LORD
Now in such a context consider the following scripture. The Hebrew meaning of the word angels means not only angels and messenger, but also a prophet, priest, teacher, ambassador. And the word hosts means a mass of persons. The angels and messengers hearken to the VOICE of God’s Word. Upon hearing His Word, they are sent forth.
Psalm 103:19-22 The LORD has prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom rules over all. 20 Bless the LORD, you his angels (#4397) , that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. 21 Bless you the LORD, all you his hosts (#6635); you ministers of his, that do his pleasure. 22 Bless the LORD, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the LORD, O my soul.

Do we “command” angels? Personally I do not command angels to do anything. Rather after I hear, see, read God’s Word, then I loose the angels (from hindrances) to go forth upon His Words. I do believe there is presumption in commanding angels if someone commands them to do their own bidding. Jesus said He only said and did what He saw the Father say and do. Jesus was completely submitted to His Father and so should we. So after we hear the Word of the Lord about whatever matter, we can use our spiritual authority to help set them to do the Lord’s bidding.
