Hearing

Hearing Direct, 1st Person Speech

HEARING IN DIRECT, FIRST PERSON SPEECH

Num 12:8  AMP

With him I speak mouth to mouth [directly], clearly and not in dark speeches; and he beholds the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against My servant Moses?

According to scripture. God speaks in two kinds of ways.  The first is direct speech, and other is indirect speech which is harder to understand.

Clear speech is hearing the Lord speak like one does face to face.  It is clear and easy to understand and He speaks in pronouns like “I” and “you.”  This way of communicating is when the veils are stripped away between us and the Lord.  We have learned to become obedient to scripture and His personal Words to us.  We have learned to lay down ourselves in order to be His friend and please Him.  To the level that we obey Him, that is the level that we will hear Him speak clearly to us without veils or anything hidden.

RHEMA 9/01/13  CLEAR WORDS FOR OBEDIENCE

HEARD:  Tell you what.  Clear Words.  I will treat you clearly as you obey Me clearly.   Tell My people, I am calling you.  At the door.

The reason God does not speak in clear direct speech more often is because of the level of accountability that accompanies His Words.  In every level of disobedience, He withdraws to the level that we keep Him at arm’s length.  Every level of obedience, He grants us promotions to the degree of our faithfulness to walk in it.  Spiritual giftings once given, are irrevocable.  Man has a choice of using them for God’s glory and His will, for their own glory and self-promotion, or for the demonic and promotion of evil.  He withholds promotions from us to our degree of obedience for our own protection.

Rom 11:29 AMP

For God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable. [He never withdraws them when once they are given, and He does not change His mind about those to whom He gives His grace or to whom He sends His call.]

Hebrews 6:4-6 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the age to come, 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

In English grammar, “first person” refers to the speaker as the personality being reflected.  Words like “I” are spoken.  When the Lord speaks in first person, it is what the Bible calls mouth to mouth, even apparent speech.  “With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches…” (Num 12:8)  Moses was the friend of God, and the Lord spoke to him in direct speech.

As a personal example of this kind of speech; one time I was camping and wearily falling into my sleeping bag, I said to the Lord, “Lord I really want to hear You tonight but I also really want to sleep as I’m so tired!”  I was used to hearing from Him at night, and that is why I prayed that prayer.  But when I prayed it, I was just praying it, not expecting Him to say anything back to me.  I heard His still small voice say, “I AM with you.”  When I heard this, it was such a very tender moment and I was deeply touched even though it was such a simple Word for Him to say.  I thought about it later as to why such a simple Word would touch me so.  I guess it is because what I said to Him was just a passing conversation,  but He not only cared enough to listen to what I had to say, but also acknowledged it, even though what I had to say to Him was not exactly an earth-moving statement!  He is so big and we are so small, and He really cares how we feel.

Another example was when I was doing dishes and just minding my own business, not really thinking about anything.  His still small voice interrupted my quiet space and said, “I love you.”  Talk about a heart melter!  So precious!  Although I am accustomed to hearing His voice, both of these times were so precious to me.  One, because I was not expecting Him to reach out to me.  And two, because they had such a profound and comforting touch upon my heart.  Only the Lord can bring such simplicity and yet give such a deep sense of life giving Words.  When we hear Him in first person, it is a real treasure.  Even though I hear His still small voice a lot, I do not hear Him speak to me in first person very often.  It is a very personal and intimate comfort when He does.

WORD TO PONDER:  CLEAR WORDS FOR THOSE WHO OBEY CLEARLY

For decades, My people have been wandering in the wilderness eating manna – My food called, “What is it?”  Yes it was a test and you grew up with the dreams and visions of parables and riddles without easy understanding.  Beloveds, I have heard every cry, and know the deepest longing of your heart for intimacy.  I know how you have wanted to hear Me like I spoke to Moses.  I have protected you from clear speech while you learned to lay your independence down and learned to obey My Word.  If you were to hear clearly and disregard it, there is much more accountability than if you were in doubt as to who spoke and what it meant.

My promises is that to the degree you obey My Word clearly, I will speak to you clearly.  After decades of circling, many doors of opportunity have now opened.  This door is opened for those who have graduated obedience school.  Are you willing to pay the price to enter through?  Precious one, I long for you even more than you long for Me!

Num 12:6-8 NLT

And the Lord said to them, “Now listen to what I say: “If there were prophets among you, I, the Lord, would reveal myself in visions. I would speak to them in dreams. 7 But not with my servant Moses. Of all my house, he is the one I trust. 8 I speak to him face to face, clearly, and not in riddles! He sees the Lord as he is. So why were you not afraid to criticize my servant Moses?”

ASSIGNMENT:

If you have never heard the Lord speak to you clearly, as though He was speaking to you face to face, take this to prayer.  Ask Him to reveal to you the areas in your life that keep Him at arm’s length.  Ask Him to be merciful and patient, but to be persistent until you have released the veils that keep you separated from knowing and hearing Him speak directly as one does face to face.

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
